MOD Norway has decided to award a major international Combat Training
Centre contract to Saab Training Systems

The Norwegian Ministry of Defence, has awarded Saab Training Systems,
Huskvarna Sweden, a substantial Turn-key contract for the Norwegian Army
Combat Manouvre Training Centre (NACMTC) located at Camp Rena, with
deliveries beginning in 2003. The contract value is over 470 million
Swedish kronor

The decision to award the NACMTC contract to Saab follows a procurement
process in full international competition. The contract value, over 470
million Swedish kronor, is mainly equipment supplies also including
operational- and logistic support for 5 years.

The NACMTC system will allow the Norwegian Army to increase military
Force and Unit operational combat effectiveness, increase training
effectiveness of combat maneuvers and increase personnel skills,
motivation, and confidence.

The equipment consists of the following major systems:

- High fidelity Direct Fire Weapons Effect Simulators that provide
the realism and fidelity required in all types of training. Weapon
procedures and handling must be followed strictly by the crews and
gunners in order to be successful on the battlefield
- Exercise Control that provides the tools and functionality for
planning and preparation, initialisation, exercise execution, analysis
and evaluation of exercises.
- Area Weapon Effects Simulation that implements the functionality
necessary to simulate and control indirect fire events including
artillery, mortar, anti-tank mines and chemical weapons
- After Action Review system for preparing and conducting an
efficient debrief

In 2000, Saab Training Systems was awarded a contract for a combat
training centre in the Netherlands and a contract for a deployable
combat training system for the US Army in Europe. Procurement of similar
training centres is currently under way in several other countries.
