Saab recognised for Australian security industry award

Defence and security company Saab’s contract with Queensland Corrective Services to design and install a major security management system for a prison in Queensland has been acknowledged for the Integrated Security Solution category.

Organised by the Australian Security Industry Association (ASIAL), the Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence are Australia’s premier security awards program. It recognises outstanding individuals and organisations within the security industry. The Integrated Security Solution award is presented to the organisation that has demonstrated the best in both innovation and excellence in the integration of electronic security systems.

“This award recognises the efforts and dedication of the Saab project team that designed, developed, installed and commissioned the Electronic Security System at the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre incorporating Saab’s Security Management System. A great deal of the success can be attributed to Saab’s cooperative work approach and the support of the builder, Baulderstone Queensland and the Queensland Government’s Corrective Services and Project Services units,” said Dean Rosenfield, General Manager of Saab Security Pty Ltd.

According to the Baulderstone’s Senior Services Manager at the time Steven Barnes, “The final outcome was a product that exceeded all expectations. It was delivered on time and within budget. Without the willingness and cooperation, engineering capability, programme management and quality assurance systems of Saab Security this would not have been possible.”

The project provided Queensland Corrective Services with leading edge security technology as part of its suite of measures designed to keep the community safe.

Saab congratulates the SQCC Project Team for its outstanding achievements in being elected for these prestigious awards.

Project Scope

Located near Gatton in the Lockyer Valley and opened in January 2012, the 300-bed Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) is the State's newest prison. SQCC is the first stage of the Southern Queensland Correctional Precinct.

The Security Services Package installed in the SQCC was delivered by Saab on time and on budget with the following benefits:

  • A system that is easy to learn and simple to use under stressful situations.
  • Provides an integrated video display and replay on the security operator’s screen to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • The operating rules and priorities can be setup and amended flexibly to support the prison’s processes.
  • A training system provides a common look, feel and operation identical to the real system without the need for ancillary hardware  and sub-systems.
  • Flexibility in choice of subsystem equipment enabling ‘best of breed’ selection.
  • Improved forensic search abilities with linked alarms, operator actions and CCTV recorded video.
