During the NATO Days 2012 air show, which took place on September 22 and 23 at Mošnov Airport in Ostrava, defence and security company Saab awarded diplomas to the Czech Army’s best operators of the Saab RBS 70 air defence missile system.
The 2012 Diploma for Top RBS 70 operators were presented on Saturday, September 22 to Staff Sergeant Václav Bergman and Staff Sergeant Jiří Toman by Colonel Vladimír Barca, Commanding Officer of the 25th Air Defence Brigade, Czech Armed Forces, and by Mats Fagerberg, Marketing Director of Saab Dynamics.
“Czech soldiers are among the world’s best operators of the RBS70 system, and their outstanding technical skills make us proud to cooperate with such a professional partner as the Czech Army. Staff Sergeants Bergman and Toman are a credit to their uniform and their unit and to the RBS70 system which they operate so proficiently” said Mats Fagerberg, Marketing Director of Saab Dynamics, which produces the RBS 70 system at its Karlskoga facility in Sweden.
The diploma ceremony was opened with speeches by commander of the Czech Air Force, General Jiří Verner and the Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Petr Pavel.
Saab participated as the general partner of NATO Days 2012, where the Czech Air Force put on an air-to-air refuelling show with one of its Gripen supersonic fighters. Visitors had the opportunity to see Czech and Hungarian Air Force Gripens on static display as well as the Swedish Air Force Erieye AEW&C 340 aircraft. Visitors also had the chance to test the Small Arms Virtual Trainer in the Saab stand.
The Saab manufactured, fully NATO interoperable, Gripen supersonic fighter aircraft is in service with the Czech Air Force. In February 2011, Saab signed an agreement to acquire the Slavkov-based company E-COM, which develops and produces virtual simulators. E-COM has delivered many different simulators to the Czech army and has achieved export success to customers worldwide.
