Strengthened position in the commercial aviation market

The established joint venture between Saab and the Indian partner QuEST Global Manufacturing will further strengthen Saab's position in the commercial aviation market and increase the company's presence in India.

"This improves our offering to existing and prospective customers. With the new company, we gain cost-effective production of simpler assemblies that will act as a complement to our own manufacturing in Linköping," says Lars Jensen, Head of Finance & Programmes, Saab Aerostructures.

QuEST has been a supplier to Saab in the Boeing 787 programme since 2009.
"Saab has a positive experience of working with QuEST as a supplier and is looking forward to an expanded relationship. We are convinced that Saab’s 75 years of experience in aviation together with QuEST’s experience from manufacturing operations in India, will lay the foundation for competitive solutions within the commercial aerostructures market," Lars Jensen continues.

Saab is a partner of both Airbus and Boeing, with manufacturing that includes wing spars for the A380, ailerons for the A320 and cargo room doors for the Boeing 787. The rate of production will increase substantially in the coming years for all three programmes.

The company, in which Saab has a 26 per cent holding, will be located in Belgaum, India, and construction of the facility will commence in 2013. Initially, the company will have around fifty employees, but that figure is expected to increase to almost 400 employees over the next ten years.

In the immediate future the focus will be on establishing operations through, for example, starting construction of the facility and recruiting employees. In time, employees from India will come to Saab in Linköping for education and training.
