Sauter Bachmann receives order from GE Aviation

GE Aviation has placed a contract, valued at approximately 29 million CHF, with Sauter Bachmann, a Glarus company. From 2009 to 2012, GE Aviation – a partner of Saab – already procured engine components and equipment from various Swiss companies, valued at approximately 140 million CHF.

“We have a long and successful business relationship with GE Aviation. Thanks to Switzerland’s planned procurement of Gripen E, that relationship will continue to grow”, says Martin Sauter, Managing Director of the Glarus company. 

Sauter Bachmann, located in Netstal (GL), is now continuing component production for GE Aviation’s F414 engine, which will power Saab’s Gripen E.

 “GE and Sauter Bachmann have enjoyed a strong relationship over the years for both GE F404 and F414 engine components. As a continuation of this effort, GE and Sauter Bachmann have concluded a Long Term Agreement (LTA) for the manufacture of selected F414 engine components in Switzerland, from 2013 to 2017,” says Tom Champion, GE Aviation Industrial Cooperation Director.

“We have committed to deliver compensation business, valued at 100 percent of the Gripen contract.We will do so by placing orders directly with Swiss companies or through our extensive network of partners and suppliers – such as GE Aviation,” says Peter Sjöström, Director Industrial Co-operation at Saab Switzerland.

Sauter Bachmann describes itself as a visionary company, based in the narrow valley of Glarus, founded in 1922. Saab Gripen Business in Switzerland

Connected to the potential Swiss procurement of 22 Gripen E for the Swiss Air Force, Saab is obliged to deliver Swiss Industrial Participation (SIP) business to Swiss industry, valued at 100 per cent of the Gripen contract. Saab is fully committed to delivering sustainable and mutually beneficial business in all parts of Switzerland, including the French- and Italian-speaking parts, according to the Swiss requirements. Saab has an excellent track record and international recognition for delivering on its promises.

The work to deliver long-term, sustainable business to Switzerland is already on-going and to date Saab’s SIP programme has delivered business worth more than 250 Million CHF to Switzerland by the end of 2012. Upon signature of the Gripen procurement contract, the delivery period for the Swiss Industrial Participation programme is ten years.
