At this very moment, thousands of aircraft are travelling through airspace towards an airport somewhere in the world. Every airport and every aircraft is part of a complex network that has no room for error, hesitation or incorrect information. For many years and in close cooperation with aviation authorities, airlines and airports, Saab has developed solutions that help to make aviation safer and more efficient.
This includes remote air traffic control solutions and systems that make processes in air traffic control towers safer and more efficient. Or security solutions that ensure better control of the flows at an airport – people, goods, work vehicles, supplies as well as aircraft of course.
Arlanda operates a number of our solutions including e-Strip.
It is an electronic system that helps air traffic controllers to manage and structure the flow of aircraft travelling to and from the airport.
Previously, this was done manually and with paper strips, but with e-Strip the entire process is performed automatically. The risk of error is lessened and the air traffic controllers have a better overview and greater control.
Knowing what is happening on the ground is just as important as having control over movements in the air. At Arlanda and Bromma airports, this is accomplished using SAFE. This is a management system from SAAB that has been specially developed for those who are working to protect and monitor socially critical infrastructure. SAFE integrates cameras, intruder alarms, fire alarms, entry systems and security surveillance in a centralised system that gives Swedavia and Securitas, who are responsible for monitoring Arlanda and Bromma airports, a real-time picture of the security situation.
Saab's solutions are currently in use at 200 of the 250 largest airports worldwide. We are obviously proud that Saab and Swedish technology is involved in efforts to provide safer and more efficient air traffic.
