Workshop Littoral OpTech – West begins

The workshop OpTech – West has started at the Swedish National Defence College in Stockholm, Sweden. The workshop is hosted by The Swedish Royal Society of Naval Sciences – Kungl. Örlogsmannasällskapet (KÖMS) – in cooperation with the Littoral Operations Center of the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and Saab.

This is the first in a series of regionally-focused Littoral Operations and Technology Workshops.  Supported by the U.S. Office of Naval Research-Global, these workshops will explore operational and technological challenges in and along the coastal, confined and shallow waters around the globe.

– I am very pleased that we have started and we have a number of very interesting and distinguished international speakers. Among our speakers we have senior navy officers from all over the world as well as participants from the academic world and industry, says, Dr. Kalev I. Sepp, Director, Littoral Operations Center, U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.

– This workshop is the first in a series focused on the global littorals. Sweden has a unique geographical location and has been compelled to design and produce systems that include technologies that work in this very complex littoral environment. Saab has been in cooperation with the Swedish Government to develop systems that take into account all different requirement and today is a leading supplier in systems that can operate in this area. We are very glad that we can contribute meaningfully to this workshop together with NPS and KÖMS,says Ted Ackerstierna, Saab's Head of Naval Segment in Western Europe.
