Saab brings to India a wide portfolio of cutting-edge technologies and systems, across the Land, Sea, Air and Civil domains.

Naval Systems

Saab’s maritime portfolio covers the air, surface, underwater and coastal security domains that provide Naval and Coast Guard forces complete command over the sea.

Saab can support India’s operational needs with solutions for:

  • Surface and sub-surface marine platform design & construction
  • Surface Warfare (Surveillance & Reconnaissance, Decision Support, Precision Engagement, Force Protection)
  • Anti-Submarine Warfare (Surveillance & Reconnaissance, Decision Support, Precision Engagement)
  • Air Warfare (Surveillance & Reconnaissance, Decision Support, Precision Engagement, Force Protection)
  • Mine Warfare (Mine Reconnaissance, Mine Hunting, Mine Countermeasures)
  • Maritime Surveillance (Maritime Patrol and support aircraft suitably equipped for surveillance and SAR) Coastal and Harbour Security

Land Systems

Saab’s RBS 70 NG, HARD, BAMSE SRSAM, GIRAFFE AMB, Carl Gustaf Weapons systems along with several others can enable a modern fighting force to become light, lethal and wired to meet the operational challenges of the 21st century. The first imperative for land forces in developing a combat strategy is to ensure coherence between battle space, security dynamics and cost for waging the battle. Saab is known for supplying not just advanced military and defence equipment to the world but also ensuring that the costs involved are low. Saab provides full support and ensures that the life cycle cost of its products and solutions are not a burden on the stakeholder’s pockets.

With a legacy based on credibility, Saab has extensive experience in supporting ground forces with solutions designed for enhanced operational capabilities and a higher level of effectiveness.

Air Domain

Saab has a broad portfolio across the Air domain, ranging from fighter aircraft and surveillance solutions to Commercial Aeronautics and Air Traffic Management systems. Gripen is a true multi-role fighter aircraft, capable of performing an extensive range of air-to-air, air-to-surface and reconnaissance missions employing the latest weapons. Using the latest technology, it is designed to meet the demands of existing and future threats, while simultaneously meeting strict requirements for flight safety, reliability, training efficiency and low operating costs.

Saab’s IDAS system has been selected as the electronic warfare self-protection system for the Indian Army’s and Air force’s Advanced Light Helicopter (Dhruv). The program is now in the series production phase and has received multiple production orders.

IDAS is a system designed to provide self-protection for airborne platforms in sophisticated, diverse and dense threat environments. IDAS is a fully integrated multi-spectral system that can be configured for radar warning, laser-warning and missile-approach-warning.

LEDS is Saab’s active protection system for ground vehicles. The latest LEDS-50 MK2 is designed to provide crews with vitally important situational awareness of laser emissions associated with battlefield threats, and allow rapid automated response. The response may utilise a range of effectors from automated all-round obscuration, to cueing of counterfire or optical inhibiting effectors like laser jammers and dazzlers.

Saab has also been selected by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to deploy Advanced – Surface Movement Guidance & Control Systems (A-SMGCS) at five airports in India. The Saab A-SMGCS will enhance situational awareness and runway safety at these growing airports. This will take the number of airports secured by us to nine: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Guwahati, Jaipur and Lucknow.

With Saab’s Remote Tower (r-TWR) Air Traffic Control System, air traffic can now be managed and controlled remotely. This is a unique technological breakthrough that allows a single air traffic management system to control more than one airport at a time - and enables more flexible provisioning of air traffic services either by time of day or by seasonal traffic fluctuations. This can boost tourism development across the country, and is in line with the government’s focus towards improving connectivity in remote areas.

Inspired by the Swedish values of innovation, reliability, commitment and quality, Saab delivers cost-effective systems for smarter forces.

India is our partner for product development for the global market. We believe that it is in our own best interest to carry out real transfer of critical technology - and engage in joint development of new generations of products, in collaboration with Indian industry.

Today, we work with Indian companies in R&D, in machining, in composites, in aerospace technologies. To develop cutting-edge products and solutions that will serve India – and the rest of the world – for generations to come. We are doing this in partnership with the Indian ambition to Make In India – the ambition to develop an indigenous defence industry of global dimensions.
