Surveillance provides efficient solutions for safety and security, for surveillance and decision support, and for threat detection and protection. The portfolio covers airborne, ground-based and naval radar, electronic warfare, combat systems and C4I solutions, and traffic management systems.
The thesis work will be performed at the unit "Develop & Mechanical Subsystems". The unit is responsible for the following areas:
- Subsystem Design & Verification
- Cabinet Design
- Platform Design
- Antenna & Laser Design
- External Provisioning & Services
- Environmental Analysis
- Environmental Testing & EMC
The unit is involved from early concept design through defining necessary requirements, material analysis, performing detail design and structural analysis and finally verifying the final product. The portfolio covers airborn, ground-based and naval radar.
Your role will be to develop a future radar system meeting high technical demands on reliability on robustness, and at the same time assuring a competitive price level is a challenge.
This master thesis work is aimed to be the first step towards a solution towards this challenge and hence lead to a new type of radar in a new product segment.
For this solution a number of technical requirements need to be considered: RF properties, power supply, mechanics, material properties, environment, cooling, manufacturing techniques etc, while at the same time being cost effective compared to similar products on the market.
During the master thesis, a system analysis shall be performed based on an intitial conceptual study, as well as a breakdown of requirements. A number of concepts based on novel technologies, from fields like for example materials science, thermal engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and electrical engineering, shall be developed for a radar system meeting the market demands on reliability, robustness and price.
The different concept configurations shall be compared and analyzed with respect to consequenses for the total requirements resulting in recommendations for the design of future radar systems.

Your skills and experience
We are looking for two dedicated applicants, probably studying material science, mechanical engineering,electrical engineering, applied physics or equivalent.
You are used to work in a team towards a common goal.
