What do you do at Saab?
I work as a Material Group Manager and software developer. I have technical responsibility and work as a technical manager with our flight simulators and support systems. I also work with tactical environment simulation.
How do you explain your job to your family and friends?I work with flight simulators. Besides the aircraft itself, there are various objects moving on the screen such as other aircraft, vehicles and boats. I work on creating them and making sure they behave the way they are supposed to.
Tell us about something fun you have done at Saab?I really enjoy seeing how the system is used. It’s a great reminder that what we do at our offices is actually being used somewhere else. For example, I have done troubleshooting at one of our military units. But the main thing that stands out is that I get to fly the flight simulators a lot, and that never gets old!

Why did you choose Saab?
I did my Master’s thesis at Saab and got offered a job after that. During my Master’s thesis, I felt that Saab was a company that produces/works with quite advanced products and that it tackles some major challenges that are also interesting. I felt that I would like to work with those things.
What is a typical day like for you at Saab?
A typical day for me is mostly sitting in front of my computer and solving tasks. These can range from writing reports about various analysis results to designing system solutions or concepts in order to fulfill different requirements. Since we work in different teams, much of the communication takes place between team members who sit closely to one another. There are usually some meetings as well, in my case maybe one a day generally, but at least for me they are not a big thing.
How has Saab supported your development?
My PhD was mainly sponsored by Saab (the rest was supported by VINNOVA through the Industry Excellence Centre LINK-SIC), which gave me the chance to study at 80 percent during 5 years as an industrial PhD student. This education gave me the opportunity to specialise and broaden my expertise in different areas. I am obviously not a unique case since Saab offers this opportunity widely and it is up to each individual to show this kind of interest.
