Simply describe your job assignments and how a regular workday looks like?
I work with Saab’s group functions and business areas and my role is to provide support on general legal matters and within the area of ethics and compliance. Saab operates in different industries, which means that I have to shift between different legal areas and business types quite often. The ethics and compliance work is varied but I would say it is mainly focused on anticorruption. Typically, I work from Linköping or Stockholm, but I also travel regularly when needed.
How did you end up at Saab?
After having graduated from university, I was looking for a job at an international company, and I applied for a job as a strategic purchaser at Saab. Shortly thereafter, Saab won a large defence contract and I was hired in April 2006.
What advice would you give to someone applying to a job at your department?
Focus on describing what drives you to deliver great results and highlight any skills and experiences you may have that will add value to the legal department. The ability to work in cross-functional teams, perform high quality work to set deadlines, and being able to communicate in other cultural environments is, in my view, a result of a combination of a university degree and other experiences.
What other roles would you say that someone with your background could take on at Saab?
When working with legal and commercial issues at a diverse company like Saab, you get experience from many other areas such as sales and marketing, purchasing, or finance. I think that any of these areas (and others) are open to consider if you would like to work within something else than the legal field.
What is it about your job that makes you feel, ”how exciting to go to work!”, on a Monday morning?
When you work closely in an international project team to solve a complicated issue, and everyone contributes from their area of expertise, which may be from finance, engineering, management, security, or human resources, you get a greatly dynamic and developing environment. I find it very satisfying when we meet set goals through good cooperation.
Many employees seem to stay with Saab for a long time, why do you think that is?
Saab’s portfolio ranges from fairly small “business to business” transactions to international megadeals. As an employee, you often have the opportunity to work in a new part of the company, or to work with different parts of the world than you did before. Moving to other positions within the company is encouraged.
How has Saab supported your development?
I did my legal training at a Swedish law firm with Saab’s support, and I have been working in different areas of the company to gain understanding about strategic purchasing, marketing and sales and commercial management.
