Short personal summary

Astrid graduated from Linköping University in June 2019 with a M.Sc. in Business and Finance. She is now a Business Controller within Group Finance at Saab in Stockholm.
Astrid grew up 30 km south of Linköping, Sweden, and is thus very familiar with the sound of Gripen swooshing by. During her youth, Astrid spent many hours playing the piano and singing, she also spent two years of full-time studies in classical music after graduating from high school. During her studies at the university, Astrid engaged herself within the association for business students in several committees and the board. She also worked part time at Danske Bank as an advisor. Nowadays, Astrid devotes herself to cross country skiing, hiking, golf and music in her spare time.

Why did you apply to the graduate program?

When looking for a potential employer, the first thing I wanted was an employer that would care for me as employee and make me feel valuable and important, no matter the size of the company. The second thing was a company with global presence and possibilities for me to challenge myself and push my own limitations, a company that really counted on my contribution. The third thing was a company with well-anchored knowledge of running a business, where I could learn as much as possible related to my education. When reading the ad for Saab’s Graduate program, everything checked out and here I am.

What is it like to work at Saab?

As a business controller in the Graduate program, you will rotate within all six of Saab’s business areas, plus the corporate function and a rotation abroad for a longer period. This means that you have to be ready to always be “the new guy”, which worried me a little in the beginning. However, everywhere I have been so far, I have been warmly welcomed and felt at home almost immediate. There is this familiar feeling in Saab with an open and caring culture; everyone really wants to show you what he or she work with, and explain how to do it. To top it off, everyone I meet are interested in me as a person and what my expectations and hopes are for my rotation at their business area.

To whom would you recommend the program?

This program is perfect for the curious explorer. You actively seek new opportunities to learn and grow. You like to work with others, adapt to new situations easily and have an inner drive. You dare to ask for tasks and challenges, and you want to understand the big picture of Saab, not just the financial part (or engineering/marketing/digital part or whatever role you apply for).

If all of the above fit you and you are looking for a great way to learn big (and complex) business, you have found the perfect program.
