How one week could turn a group of eight graduates into a team

As I stepped out of the car an early morning in October, I felt my knees trembling with excitement for a moment. I took a deep breath, picked up my luggage and stepped into the conference facility. As soon as I walked in, the tickling nervousness butterflies (that I did not want to admit to myself that I felt) disappeared and I could notice that everyone else in the room also had awaited this week with anticipation. After a month at our home departments, it was finally time for our first team week as graduates.

There are two parts from the first week that stand out slightly extra for me. The first one was discussing personality traits of a leader, how we interpret ourselves versus how other interpret us, and how to be aware of ones behaviors and actions to be able to lead in the best way possible. It really made us question and evaluate how we are and how to lead in the best possible way.

The second was for sure when I encouraged everyone to participate in a dance practice to “We’re all in this together” from High School Musical. And after some extra encouragement from a few of us, everyone participated and we later put on a show for the previous year of graduates. I think this describes quite clearly how much we trust and got to know each other in such a short time.

I speak for all of us when I say that we are even more excited and curious for the coming year and I can feel that trembling feeling of excitement just thinking about it.
