She now works as a systems engineer at Technology Management, Airframe Development within business area Aeronautics in Linköping. Johanna enjoys cooking, travelling, being outdoors, and occasionally still plays ice hockey, which she did actively as a teenager. She is also a music lover and will always be keen on joining a concert or music quiz.

Why did you apply to the graduate program?
I had been working as a design engineer at Saab Aeronautics for a few months when my current position was posted for the program. For me, Saab has always been a fascinating company and I was really happy with Saab as an employer too. I felt I wanted to fully explore the Saab world and that this was a perfect way to do it, at the same time as I would get the right tools to become a future leader. So far, the program has exceeded my expectations!

What is the most surprising thing you have learned at Saab?
That the company is so much more diverse than I ever could have imagined before, considering both our enormous product portfolio but also the endless possibilities for us as employees. I have met so many people that have worked here for 20+ years and have done so many different things. That makes me excited about my future within Saab.

Do you have any tips for someone who is interested in applying to the graduate program?
The best thing would be to contact a previous graduate who did the entire journey, or just contact one of us current graduates and we will be happy to talk! Besides that, I believe it is important to stay true to yourself and really show what your genuine interests are. I know from experience that if you are passionate about something you will definitely be great at working with it.

Has your image of Saab changed during the program?
I now see the complexity inus being such a large corporation with many long and technically advanced projects. This of course brings both challenges and opportunities for us to develop as a company. I believe we could be even better at sharing knowledge across business areas, which is really something I want to work with in the future.

Do you only do rotations in your area of expertise?
So far, I would say yes as Systems Engineering is quite broad, and I have been able to use my experience as a design engineer to better understand the projects I have been involved in. However, I will try to incorporate as many different areas of expertise in my rotations as possible, and every day I do feel like I am stepping out of my comfort zone and learn more about myself.

Can we contact you if we have additional questions?
I will be more than happy to hear from you on either LinkedIn or at johanna.friis@saabgroup.com !
