The successful candidate will be the senior Saab employee based in Orlando and the local executive responsible for managing Saab’s Land Systems offerings related to Ground Combat Weapons, Signature Management and Training and Simulation products and services.

Your role

Saab is establishing a new Land Systems division located in Orlando, FL and is seeking a General Manager to lead and grow the company’s operations. The successful candidate will be the senior Saab employee based in Orlando and the local executive responsible for managing Saab’s Land Systems offerings related to Ground Combat Weapons, Signature Management and Training and Simulation products and services.

Saab operates a global management matrix organization where the local executive has delegated responsibility from the relevant global Business Area for the efficient and effective execution of the local business within the area of responsibility.  The candidate will develop and execute Saab’s local Land Systems business strategy in partnership with the relevant global business areas and business units and will manage the profit and loss of local Land Systems operations.

The ideal candidate has significant organizational leadership experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to strategically manage market and business risks and opportunities as a member of the U.S. corporate leadership team.  The ideal candidate will have significant experience managing and developing highly motivated management teams.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Set up ways of working, standard operating procedures, and practices for the Division, in accordance with corporate policies and procedures in the U.S. and Sweden, and all supported by the engineering and support functions at Saab in Sweden and the U.S.
  • Recruit for and lead a team of highly skilled and motivated managers and employees.
  • Lead and structure the management team, and provide the support needed for them to succeed in their roles.
  • Effectively manage the financial performance of assigned local operations in support of the global Business Area and Business Units, while leveraging the U.S. corporation resources to ensure maximum efficiency. 
  • Manage Saab’s U.S. Land Systems operations supporting the U.S. DoD in the following areas:
    • Ground Combat Weapon Systems – including both crew served reloadable and single soldier preloaded shoulder launched weapons.
    • Signature Management Systems - including multispectral Ultra Lightweight Camouflage Net System (ULCANS), Integrated Mobile Camouflage and Break Away camouflage systems and Solar shades.
    • Training and Simulation – including Synthetic Training Environment (STE) Live Simulation systems, Force on target products  and virtual and constructive training systems
  • Develop, implement, and manage Saab’s U.S. Land Systems market growth strategy in partnership with corporate organizations in the U.S. and Sweden.  
  • Set clear expectations and establish performance targets for the local team and deliver on set targets.
  • Effectively serve as the senior point of contact and develop and manage senior level internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Effectively develop and manage relations and cooperation with community and local partners.
  • Develop and manage a culture and program of Health and Safety priority within the facility.
  • Effectively represent Saab in local political, community, and industrial engagements.

Your experiences and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related discipline is required. MBA/ Master's degree desirable.
  • 20+ years of progressive leadership experience with proven track record of success in leading industry or DoD mid to large functional and/or program organizations.
  • Prior U.S. Military experience and a strong, relevant customer network is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and grow business in relevant U.S. Defense markets.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enjoys building new relationships
  • Visionary, driven, innovative and takes initiative without being asked
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as collaboratively in a team setting
