Master Thesis, 30 HP: Optimization of utilization of machines

For an efficient production, a high degree of utilization of machines is a necessity, creating an efficient production with minimized downtimes and optimized lead times. To increase the utilization rate some of Saab Kockums key manufacturing resources, we need to study and optimize the entire process from design to manufacturing.


By studying the process for the degree of utilization of key machines, create an optimized process, tools and methods for design and production.

Description of the master thesis

Optimize the process and flow from design to production to increase the utilization of machines and thereby eliminate the risk of bottlenecks occurring in future production.

Analyze working methods, production data, methods and tools for OEE.

The assignment includes for instance the elimination of the following risks:

  • Low utilization of machines
  • May seek capacity outside the "house"
  • Long lead times
  • High implementation costs
  • Consuming man-time throughout the process
  • Waiting times for rigging
  • Re-work due to collisions between product and machine

Your profile

This Master Thesis is suitable for 1-2 students with interest in manufacturing technology and value creating production systems

You are at the end of your MSc in Mechanical Engineering and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP. Bottle-neck optimization, lean, value stream management
