The challenge in this Master Thesis will be the sizing of a parameterized turbofan using multivariable optimization feed with standard engine monitoring parameters available.
Master Thesis background
In cases where no engine performance computer program is available for a certain aircraft application, a need to model the engine can appear to achieve knowledge of the actual engine characteristics. Engine parameters are usually available for monitoring, typically shaft speeds, turbine outlet temperature, pressure ratio, component pressures and temperatures. These parameters will be used to adapt a generic turbofan model.
Description of the master thesis
This Master Thesis will use a generic propulsion simulation program, EVA - developed at Mälardalen University, to model a parameterized turbofan engine. A framework shall be developed to perform a model parameter optimization to find the component and engine characteristics that best represent the tested engine.
The methodology shall be verified with either real or simulated test data.
This Master Thesis is suitable for one or two students with interest in aeronautical engineering. You are at the end of your technical education within mechanical engineering or equivalent and are about to start your Master Thesis work. We are looking for you who are interested in solving technical problems in exciting aeronautical systems. We are looking for you who are a team player enjoying collaboration within the team as well as with external contacts.
