Saab Training Systems delivers digitised DFWES two months ahead of
schedule to UK Ministry of Defence
Saab Training Systems, Huskvarna, Sweden will deliver a digitised DFWES
(Direct Fire Weapon Effects Simulator) in time for the first digitised
exercise on Salisbury Plain Training Area in May 2004.
The contract has included the update of previously delivered Saab BT 46
simulator systems to be compatible with the British Army new digital
radio system BOWMAN. The radio system will provide secure tactical
combat communications for UK land, air and littoral operations.
"Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES) training is one of the vital
building blocks in the progression of training up to formation level.
This training is dependent on a BOWMAN-compatible training environment
and the delivery of a Digitised DFWES is one of the cornerstones in that
training. The delivery has been made possible thanks to the excellent
support of General Dynamics, the Defence Procurement Agency and various
vehicle design authorities who contributed so much to this success,"
says Mats Eriksson, Business Director UK, Saab Training Systems.
The delivery features several improvements with respect to realism and
also allows for future enhancements to DFWES for an improved training
capability in an NEC environment.
