The Saab UK new office was officially opened on Monday September 12 by the Swedish Ambassador to London, H.E.Nicola Clase.
In his welcoming speech Saab President and CEO Håkan Buskhe pointed out that Saab already has some 200 employees in the UK, and are providing jobs for hundreds more in different partnerships with UK industries. Most of these employees today are at Saab Seaeye in Fairham where Saab has concentrated its underwater vehicle operations, and at Saab Training providing simulation and training solutions at different UK army training camps. This is a good foundation to build on when Saab are planning to expand in the UK. This will be done by a team headed by the new Managing Director for Saab UK, Peter Hultin, and Saab UK chairman, Vice President and Head of Region Europe Rustan Nicander.

Håkan Buskhe gave several examples on good co-operation between Saab and the UK. Saab radars Giraffe and Arthur, both delivered ahead of schedule and on budget. In 2002 the first Arthur radar was used in battle only 21 days after the contract had been signed, warning troops about incoming fire. The Saab New Light Anti-tank Weapon, NLAW, a joint program together with the UK MoD. Designed by Saab in Sweden and produced by Thales in the UK. The NLAW has 14 subcontractors in the UK. And as a final example, the Empire Test Pilot School has been flying Gripen since 1999.
The guests at the office opening, including British politicians and representatives from the Armed Forces, also got a chance to fly Gripen. Co-located with the Saab UK office is the Aeronautics Design Center. There, a Sea Gripen flight simulator was already up and running.
