Jean Gallay SA and Gripen E producer Saab join forces to win a contract with an international customer in the aviation engine business. It can result in significant production volume at Jean Gallay’s facility in Plan-les-Ouates GE.
One not disclosed customer in the aviation engine business is currently looking for sub-suppliers to produce engine parts. The business scope can be 50 MCHF or more over a ten year period. A first step is foreseen to be a two year contract signed before the end of the year.
“When the client approached us for a quotation, it was natural to discuss the matter with Jean Gallay in Geneva”, says Lennart Sindahl, head of Saab Aeronautics. “Working with industrial cooperation within the Gripen E programme, we have gathered a very good understanding of the competence of Swiss Industry, and Jean Gallay is one of the companies that is fully capable and world renowned in this on the international market.”
With its numerous competences and special processes under one same roof, Jean Gallay SA is specialized in the sheet metal work for manufacturing complex components of aircraft engines and industrial gaz turbines.
“Saab’s proposal is a great opportunity for us to acquire know-how, new equipments and increase our labor force” says Laurence de la Serna, CEO.
In combination with the procurement of Gripen E, Saab has an obligation to deliver industrial cooperation to the same amount as the value of the Gripen E contract. By the end of 2012, Saab and partners have already delivered 250 MCHF in business with Swiss companies, of which well over 200 MCHF is already analysed and confirmed by the offset bureau and armasuisse by the end of 2011.
From January to July 2013 an additional 63 contracts were concluded, of which 17 contracts in the French speaking part of Switzerland. The additional business volume achieved from January to July 2013 is 65 MCHF.
Of the total business volume since the beginning of the programme 18 per cent has been achieved within the French speaking parts of Switzerland.
“We now work to continuously increase this percentage, by finding more business partners in this region”, affirms Sindahl.
Since the beginning of the programme a total of 456 contracts have been signed with 117 companies.
