Awarded solution on display at NBAA

Recently Saab was honored with the Airbus Innovation Award for the new Overheat detection system (OHDS) currently being developed for Airbus A350. Meet us and learn more at NBAA, Las Vegas, October 22-24.

Airbus and its 133,000 employees delivered approximately 750 aircraft last year, and is a major Saab customer. Recently the Airbus Innovation Award was given to Saab’s business unit Avionics systems, within the business area IPS, at a ceremony in Toulouse, France.

“Receiving this award feels amazing and it’s a great honour. Airbus is a professional, demanding customer, and it shows that our ability to find new solutions – with fibre technology in this case – is at the forefront of technology,” says Jan Widerström, head of Avionics systems.

The OHDS system, which is based on new fibre technology, monitors and measures the temperature in and surrounding the system that supplies the aircraft with air for pressurisation of, among other things, the passenger cabin. The OHDS solution reduces the total number of components by 90% and the weight by 80%, which are highly significant factors in the aviation industry. The solution also received the Saab Innovation Award.

Saab has been an Airbus supplier since 1997, and delivers products to all of Airbus’ programmes. Airbus will implement the system in all future A350 aircraft.

“OHDS truly makes a difference to our customers, both internal and external. I consider this a disruptive innovation and very well deserving of the awards”, says Jessica Öberg, Head of business area IPS at Saab.
